Yoemen fall to Academy in close game, 76-69
In an exciting game the Yoe basketball team was unfortunately defeated by the Little River Academy Bees on Tuesday 76-69.
The Yoe basketball team played the Bees evenly to start the game. They were aided by three three-point shots by Kaleb Burks. He made three of their first four three-point shots, the other was made by Ke’Vaughn Booze.
Cameron went into the second quarter down 24-18. In the second quarter they were able to stay in the game due to many ball handling and shooting errors by Little River Academy. It was very tight as the Yoemen outscored the Bees 16-15 in the second quarter.
Sadly, they still went in the half trailing 39-34. Cameron showed more fire coming into the third quarter. It took a few minutes, but the Yoemen started to match the Bees intensity.
The Yoemen got their first lead of the half with a contested layup by Zakorien Spikes at the four-minute mark in the third quarter making it 42-41. This was also their first lead of the game since the first quarter when they led 15-13 due to a three-point shot by Booze.
During the quarter, there were two ties and seven lead changes. Cameron started to pile on the points and collected key defensive stops and they went into the fourth quarter up 58-52.
The third quarter was ended on a buzzer beating three-point shot by Javoun Goldsby.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Yoemen led by as many as eight when they led 63-55. However, to end the game, Little River academy went on a 21-6 run to seal the victory.
They will take on Florence in Yoe Gym on Friday and that game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. They have fallen to 3-2 in district play and their overall record is now 11-4. They still remain in the third spot in the district standings just ahead of the Caldwell Hornets at 2-2.
