JUDGE: Place of Hope is a place to support
Last week we spoke of resources available to Milam County Folks when it comes to our children. April is Child Abuse Awareness month and as such it’s important to discuss the existing resources to stop Child Abuse and to aid children in the foster care system.
In last week’s article I also mentioned other resources, one of those was Place of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center in Rockdale. One of the ways we can work to help curb the occurrences of Child Abuse is to give our mothers and parents the best start we can and that’s what Place of Hope helps with.
Place of Hope helps pregnant moms, especially those with unplanned or unprepared for pregnancies and is Milam County’s only Pregnancy Resource Center. They offer personal and practical help for mothers in a non-judging manner that allows these mothers and the families to address their emotional, practical, and spiritual needs.
Some of these pregnancies are just unplanned blessings, but many of these pregnancies can be accompanied by less than supportive situations that are detrimental to a successful pregnancy resulting in a rough time for a new mother once the baby is born. That’s where Place of Hope comes in.
The staff works with the mothers and families to educate them to be the best parents they can be through the use of instructional videos, counseling, with classes on baby care and wellness, and by allowing the new parents to build networks with other expecting parents, providers, and the staff of Place of Hope. By learning what works best and what steps need to be taken to be effective in parenting, Place of Hope is giving these parents the best opportunity to create the best of beginnings for these babies.
Place of Hope provides a safe and confidential place for parents to come to get help in a caring and loving setting. Being a pro-life organization, Place of Hope is dedicated to helping mothers and parents, no matter their place in life, to have every opportunity to succeed and create the positive place of beginning for each child’s life. Some of the services that are provided by or helped with through Place of Hope are; Free Pregnancy Tests, Ultrasounds, Classes involving basic life skills, maternity clothes, baby clothes, baby gear, diaper, wipes, bottles, and baby bath products to name a few.
As a 100 percent all volunteer organization, to be able to provide all of this support and help, Place of Hope needs our support and help. This Friday evening, April 19th, the Place of Hope will be having its main annual fundraiser – Hope Night. Hope Night will take place at the Milam County Cowboy Church out on Highway 77 in Rockdale. The event starts at 5 p.m. with a meal at 6 p.m. There will be a live auction, silent auction, gun raffle and a purse raffle, and prizes galore. Tickets are $50 per person and are available by calling (512) 446-2220 or at the office at 231 E Cameron Avenue in Rockdale.
I know everyone’s lives are busy and there is much to do on a Friday evening, but what else is more important than making sure we are taking care of our mothers and babies. Be it through education, counseling, or material items, Place of Hope is there to help with our most valuable and vulnerable assets, our kids. Now it’s our turn to help our Milam County kids.
