Cameron Thrift Store give big thanks to late manager

The board of directors and employees of the Cameron Area Christian Services Thrift Store express our condolences on the passing of Mrs. Betty McDonald, long time board member and most recently, manager of the thrift store, to her family.

Betty was so valued, as a member of our team. The thrift store saw increased successes under her direction. Betty had a servant’s heart for people and demonstrated her Christian faith in its day-to-day operation and interaction with store customers.  She will be sorely missed.

The Thrift Store board of directors met on Tuesday, February 8 at the First United Methodist Church meeting room.

The manager’s report and financial reports from January, 2021 were presented.

Donations from the following organizations were presented; Hart of Texas, First Baptist Church and All Saint Episcopal Church.  Eight private individuals also donated funds and food in January.  Three volunteers also participated last month.  The store supplied food and clothing for 76 families in January free of charge.

The board also discussed plans to install multiple cameras in and around the thrift store to improve building security.  The cameras will be able to record activity in the store during the day and after hours as well.

The board also discussed personnel and store operations. We are in the process of discussing and updating our thrift store by-laws, to update them to current standards.

President Wood and the board also welcomed Mrs. Lisa Condry of Cameron, as our new store manager.  Mrs. Condry will begin her new job February 18.  We welcome her and know she will do a terrific job!

Mrs. Condry is a member of the board of directors and currently serves also a co-vice president.

Current members of our board include:  Ann Arney, Chuck Dart, Sue Foster (secretary), Rev. Charles Harrison (vice president), Georgie Jackson, Kathryn Janicek, Tom Kelly, Marie Kortis (treasurer), Jane Marek, Maxine Stoebner, Rev. Moses Vaca and Rev. Alan Wood (president).

Remember, we are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of every week from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Please come see us!

Resale of donated household items and a great selection of clothing for adults and children are available at low prices.  Bags of food are available if needed, at no charge.

If you have questions or need help please come by and talk to our manager Lisa Condry.
