Milam County Crop Tour set for June 21

The Milam County Row Crop Tour will be held June 21. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at the Extension Office, 100 East 1st Street in Cameron. There is a $10 registration fee.

The tour will feature demonstration plots including: grain sorghum at Jay Beckhusen’s farm in Buckholts and corn at Buddy Johnson’s farm in Thorndale.

Presentations will include the following at the plots: Grain Sorghum Variety Trial presented by Dr. Ronnie Schnel, Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Grain Sorghum and Corn Specialist, and Dr. David Kerns, Professor and Statewide Extension IPM Coordinator; Cotton IPM discussion with Kerns; Corn Variety Trial presented by Schnell. 

The day will then move over to the Thorndale VFW for a presentation by Kevin Humphrey with the Milam County Farm Service Agency; a presentation from Dr. John R.C. Robinson, Extension Economist, about the commodity market outlook; a presentation on plant pathology and diseases by Dr. Tom Isakeit with Texas A&M; and a presentation by Gene Hall with Texas Farm Bureau about eminent domain and landowners. 

CEU credit will be offered for Licensed Private, Commercial or Non-Commercial Applicators – two IPM and one general.
