Commissioners appoint new constable for Precinct 4

Milam County Commissioners appointed Kirby Shoemake as interim Precinct 4 Constable during a meeting on Monday.

Shoemake, who is from Rockdale and is set to retire from his current law enforcement post in Williamson County this September, will take up the spot vacated with the departure of former Constable Michael Moehling.

Commissioners also learned from R3NDA, who is the firm overseeing the professional building renovation project on behalf of the county, that the project is currently overbudget and behind schedule due to issues that have arisen during the construction.

The court learned that the contract for the renovation approved under the previous administration did not include a structural engineer to ensure structural integrity in the designs and renovations. Several other issues have also arisen that were not included that will have to be to move the project forward.

Milam County Judge Bill Whitmire said the county is already past the point of no return on this project and there is no choice but to keep going.
