County sets Budget Town Hall Meetings
The 2025 Milam County budget is available for viewing by the public.
This year’s proposed tax rate is $0.542 per hundred dollars valuation. That is a drop of over seven cents from last year.
Milam County Judge Bill Whitmire said the increase in the budget of $637,199.08 should be covered by the tax revenues from new properties of $779,881.85.
The county will host Town Hall Meetings on the 2025 Proposed Budget over the next few weeks. The Town Halls will all start at 6:30 p.m. as follows: Monday, Aug. 19 – Cameron, Bea’s Kitchen; Tuesday, Aug. 20 – Buckholts, Community Center; Wednesday, Aug. 21 – Thorndale, Chamber of Commerce; Thursday, Aug. 22 – Milano, Community Center; Monday, Aug. 26 – Rockdale, Kay Theater.
“All of the departments did a good job with the budget this year,” Whitmire said. “There will be a 30 minute presentation on the budget and time for questions at the Town Hall Meetings.”
During the meeting commissioners also made a presentation to the Milam County Historical Commission for their Distinguished Service Award.
The Texas Historical Commission awarded a 2023 Distinguished Service Award to the Milam County Historical Commission.
This annual award recognizes Milam County Historical Commission for their exemplary initiation and execution of comprehensive programs that preserve Texas’ diverse historic and cultural resources. In 2023, statewide County Historical Commissions contributed an impressive 341,463 volunteer hours, translating to an in-kind donation to the state valued at $10,858,524.
In other business commissioners also: voted to stay with United Healthcare for county employee insurance; approved several variances for property; approved a preliminary plat for 142 Farms development; approved a development permit application for Sypert Branch Solar LLC; approved a waiver for Joey and Ned McElwrath for the Milam County Tax Office; approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Buckholts and Precinct 1; approved the purchase of new air conditioning systems for JP Precinct 4 offices; and approved the order of general election and election judges for the November election.
