County voters preliminarily approve ESD

County voters unofficially approved an Emergency Services District in the county on Saturday along with several other elections.

Sixty-two percent of voters said yes to a proposal to create an ESD, with 37 percent voting against the measure.

The next step is for the votes to be seperated by each municipality and recounted to make sure the measure passes in all five cities in the county. 

In the Cameron City Council election incumbent At Large Councilmember Cliff Cryer defeated Lekethia "KeKe" Sims. Maurice Goza (Ward 1), Kyle Deal (Ward 3) and Barbara Dominguez (Ward 5) were all unopposed.

In the Milano School Board election Blake Debault got 144 votes, Odes Foster Jr. got 82 votes, Neile Briden got 75 votes, Gary Steinbecker got 71 votes, and Carlos R. Campos got 42 votes.

In the City of Thorndale elections incumbent Mayor George Galbreath Jr. won over challenger Gerald Niemtschk with 57 percent of the vote. Michael Becker defeated Jared Melde for City Council by 53 percent to 46 percent.

In the Thorndale ISD election Kimberly McCoy Jordan got 225 votes, Kimberly Biar got 194 votes and Hector Hernandez got 190 votes.

In Rockdale, Lin Perry was unopposed in the West Ward. Dave Melton defeated Brittany Bell with 59 percent of the vote in the East Ward. Rockdale ISD voters approved a school bond 411 for and 296 against.
