Groundwater Summit on July 18

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) invites you to the 10th Annual Burleson and Milam Counties Groundwater Summit on July 18 at the Caldwell Civic Center. This year’s summit promises to be our best yet, with exciting topics, expert speakers, and plenty of opportunities to learn and connect.

At the Summit, attendees will explore the current state of water in Texas and its future outlook, learn how groundwater rights and regulations are being managed with Central Texas’s population growth, and learn about the district’s new 5-year permit review process beginning in January 2025.

You will also receive updates on new groundwater legislation and what it means for the future, get the latest updates on groundwater monitoring in our area, and the latest on our grant programs and services – and how they’re benefiting you! Finally, attendees will get a better understanding of their water sample results and recommended treatment options.

Our lineup features presentations and panel discussions from top experts in the field. You’ll hear from state officials, engineers, and groundwater pros who are eager to share their knowledge and answer your questions.

On the agenda is a panel discussion, “Legislative Update: Recent Developments and Future Directions,” which will include insights on recent changes in groundwater laws and what might come next as we near the next legislative session. The panel will discuss the effects of new and existing water laws, the need for advocacy and education, and about working with local and legislative officials that impact policy. This one- hour panel is a must-attend for anyone interested in groundwater policies and laws looking to better understand the legal framework groundwater districts operate within.

Panelists include:

• Sarah Kirkle, Director of Policy and Legislative Affairs at the Texas Water Conservation Association,

with years of experience in policy and legislative work.

• Robby Cook, a legislative consultant with a background in public service, including being a state

representative, and a board member of the Texas Water Conservation Association.

• Gary Westbrook, General Manager of the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District,

with over 20 years of experience in groundwater management and policy.

Lunch will be provided, and there will be breaks for networking and picking up water sample results.
