Helping Out

Each year during spring break and Christmas break, the City of Cameron pound is proud to sponsor college bound seniors from Yoe High School who are trying to achieve the requirements for Callaway Scholarships. These scholarships are important to the students and their families to aide in their various educational endeavors. By volunteering for the pound, the students learn how to socialize and care for the dogs and the facility. Some of their duties include cleaning kennels, feeding dogs, training dogs to walk on leads, socializing the dogs, and cleaning up around the pound. The Callaway Foundation offers opportunities to each Yoe High graduating senior for scholarship funds. These scholarships can be anything from $1,500 to a full scholarship in various colleges or universities and is a tremendous resource for the students and their families who may not have the financial means otherwise. The City of Cameron pound, Sandra Ritch ACO, volunteers Mauricia Dixon and Nancy George, are proud to have the opportunity to support these young people in their efforts. The City of Cameron pound is located at 1200 E Gillis in Cameron and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and weekends by appointment only.
