Junior Burger Cook-off planned for Steak, Stein and Wine this year

An exciting new event will be added to the annual Steak, Stein and Wine Festival this year.

A Junior Burger Cook-off will be added to the event on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The event is organized by the Steak, Stein, and Wine Festival Committee. Team entry fees are $20 per team, and teams can have sponsors, banners, and signs to represent their group.

Each team must consist of one participant aged 10 to 17, accompanied by an adult supervisor aged 18 or older.

The youth participant is responsible for cooking, while the adult supervisor can assist with grill or fire management, cutting vegetables/meat, and providing guidance. However, the youth participant must independently season, cook, and assemble the burger.

The competition will have two judging categories: complete burgers for appearance, and burger patties for taste, texture/tenderness, and appearance. Judging will be done blindly by 5 judges for both categories and will be scored on a scale of 2 to 10.

Awards for first, second, and third place will be given in each category. Ground beef (two pounds) will be provided to each team the morning of the competition.  Teams cannot bring their own meat (all coolers will be inspected).
