Memorial Day Ceremony set

Memorial Day falls on May 27 this year.

The real meaning of Memorial Day can sometimes get lost amidst the excitement of a three-day weekend.  While it’s important to spend time with family and friends, it’s also important to remember the real reason for the holiday.

Memorial Day was created to honor U.S. military personnel who lost their lives while serving our country.  This holiday, which takes place each year on the last Monday in May, serves as a reminder of the sacrifices that have been made in the service of our country.

Across the country, people honor fallen U.S. military personnel by attending parades, decorating military graves, and lowering the American flag to half-mast from sunrise to noon.  If you haven’t read up on the history of our country and its heroes, Memorial Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to spend some time doing so.

Whatever you do, take a moment to pause and reflect on the incredible sacrifices that have been made on America’s behalf.  Your community’s Veterans will be honoring this holiday with a memorial service at the County Courthouse at 10 a.m. American Legion Post 9 invites you to join in.
