Scott appointed interim police chief for Cameron
The Cameron City Council appointed Carlton Scott as interim police chief during a meeting on Monday night.
Scott will serve as civilian police administrator and then interim police chief once he is approved.
“We have been lucky, we reached out to a few people and Mr. Scott expressed interest in the position,” Mayor Nathan Fuchs said. “Due to some paperwork stuff we will appoint him tonight.”
Fuchs said Scott has over 30 years of experience with the Texas Department of Public Safety and he will be a good addition to the community.
The council also approved City Manager Ricky Tow to start accepting applications for police chief.
Fuchs took time to thank Chief Lonnie Gosch for his service to the City of Cameron at the beginning of the meeting.
Gosch handed in his official letter of resignation on Friday, July 26. His last day with the department will be Aug. 9.
The council also took action and appointed John Anderle as the Cameron ISD representative to the Cameron Tourism Board and appointed Kyle Deal and Sara Kostroun to the Cameron Economic Development Board.
The Council also approved the use of city property for several different events this fall including: Cameron Lions Centennial Park for use by the First Methodist Church on Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Cameron Municipal Airpark for use by the Cameron EDC for the 2024 Airshow and Fly-in on Oct. 19; and the use of the downtown square for the Cameron Chamber of Commerce’s Trunk-or-Treat on Oct. 31.
