Annual Ruck and Ride event honors local fallen soldiers, first responders
The Second Annual Milam County Memorial Ruck & Ride honored the lives of Major Sergeant Charles Price III and Second Lieutenant Darryn Andrews, killed in action in Afghanistan, on Nov. 16.
Participants hiked/walked eight miles from the Cameron City Park to the swimming pool and back in remembrance of the two.
There will be a short presentation honoring the military, law enforcement, and fire/emergency medical professionals of Milam County following the ruck, where a wooden flag was presented to the families of the fallen. There was also a presentation made to the county of a wooden flag for placement somewhere in one of the county buildings.
A Memorial Motorcycle Ride was held in conjunction on Highway 77 south of Cameron.
“This event was started to join our communities in honoring sacrifice,” organizer Bobbie Wiesman said. “Specifically, a joint remembrance of 2LT Andrews and MSG Price, who lost their lives in combat. From my first experience, I realized that there was a need to really honor the many who also sacrifice in the line of duty. So many first responders assisted selflessly to make the first event a success.”
