Cameron church burns in early morning fire
A Cameron church burned this morning.
The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department responded about 1:30 a.m. this morning to the Cameron Church of Christ next to Central Avenue Bistro at 300 North Central in reference to a structure fire.
Crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing out of the building.
Fire Chief Henry Horelica said crews made entry into the building and knocked down the fire quick, though it did reach into the attic. Crews were on scene about two hours, but had to return to the scene at 4:14 a.m. for a rekindle in the framing of the attic.
Firefighters were on scene another 45 minutes to douse those flames.
There were no injuries reported. A total of two units and 16 firefighters responded.
Horelica said the east end and hallway suffered the heaviest fire damage, though the flames did not get into the main room.
The building is expected to be a total loss, though not the contents.
Horelica termed the fire suspicious and said the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the matter.
