Cameron Elementary students raise money for Valentine Project
The Cameron Elementary Student Council recently finished sponsoring a fundraiser called The Valentine Project to raise money for the Scott and White Children Hospital in Temple.
They got the whole school excited about bringing money. It started Jan. 12 and ended Jan. 27 raising a little over $1,700. With the money our school purchased Valentine presents for patients from third grade up to graduating seniors. For the newborns, we sent a check for $550 to the hospital to purchase appropriate presents for them.
The students came to the realization that these young patients wouldn’t be able to attend their own Valentine parties this week and might be a little down about that. Some of the presents were posters, books, diaries, socks, pointers and games that were mostly purchased from the Scholastic Book Fair - a sure hit with the patients.
During this activity we discovered that the hospital has the patients put Valentine sacks on their doors if they are in isolation or have one on in their room. The staff then goes around throughout the day delivering a present that they think that patient might like. The presents will help the staff have interesting things to give.
The students would like to express their appreciation to the community and parents for being so generous. The hospital was amazed at the amount of money that was raised. All the patients were able to get not just one but several nice gifts.
