Cameron ISD board OKs bond election for May
The Cameron ISD Board of Trustees voted to move forward with another try for a bond to bring new facilities for Career and Technology Education (CTE) courses to the district on Monday night.
The board called for a bond election to be held in May in conjunction with school board elections during their regular meeting.
Cameron ISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said the bond proposal is a comprehensive plan that addresses CTE program needs, aging infrastructure and gives back the original C.H. Yoe High School.
The bond proposal was developed last fall through an in-depth process and proposed to voters in November. The bond failed by a slim margin.
“Improving CTE and Ag program offerings and spaces remains a priority to the district,” Sprinkles said. “We reevaluated each project and considered other options while recognizing the cost implications of doing these projects later than initially proposed in August.”
He said the commitment to providing quality opportunities for the district’s students led the board to agree on putting the same proposal before voters in May.
The bond proposes renovating Old Yoe to create space for Career and Technology Education courses where all students will be able to learn in hands-on 21st century educational environments.
All renovations will be designed to provide opportunities for students while keeping the history of Old Yoe.
The bond also proposes renovations and additions to the Ag facilities for welding, floral and vet tech programs.
