CISD bond sees narrow margin; Pratt unseats Sims in city election

Voters went to the polls Saturday to decide on constitutional amendments along with city council and school bond issue in Cameron.

Cameron ISD saw a second run at a $15.9 million bond proposal narrowly pass by a 484-483 margin.

CISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said the results remain unofficial and some provisional ballots are outstanding.

Cameron City Council will have a new Ward 4 councilmember after Jimmy Pratt unseated incumbent Keke Sims 34-21.

The Milam County Elections Department saw Milam County voters turn out to vote in favor of both proposals to the state constitution. Over 80 percent of voters favored the amendments.

Proposition 1 seeks to allow the state legislature to reduce the limit on the taxes that may be proposed for public school purposes on an elderly or disabled homeowner; Proposition 2 would raise the tax exemption homeowners can take on their public school taxes from $25,000 to $40,000.

Thorndale voters picked Steven Zuehlke, Marla Davis, and Wayne Green to the city council.

Voters for Rockdale ISD chose Lindsey Lillard over Braden Byrd, 420-327, for a place on the school board.

There will also be new faces on Rockdale City Council. Incumbent Mayor John King lost re-election to newcomer and former councilman Brett Boren 271-251.

Kyle Walker will take over a West Ward seat after knocking off Braden Wallis 266-138. Esme Ruelas-Oliveras defeated incumbent Michelle Larkin 79-23 for an East Ward seat on the council. Larkin had previously resigned from the council after moving out of state, but her name remained on the ballot because of the timing of the move.

Bartlett ISD voters approved a $20 million bond proposal by a final tally of 269-238. The Milam County portion of Bartlett ISD voters voted against the bond 24-17.

Trey Richter, Chad Green, and Sara Fuchs won 3 seats to Rogers ISD board. For Rogers City Council, Jeff Watson, Doyle Harris, and Ernest Stroud won seats.

A pair of Rogers road bonds passed.

Primary Runoff Elections are set for May 24. Early voting in the Primary Runoff will begin May 16 and run through May 20. Election Day will be May 24.

Milam County Precinct 1 voters will elect a new commissioner between Doug Baker and James Denman.
