Commissioners adopt abatement for new business, discuss federal grant funds

Milam County Commissioners approved a tax abatement for a new business coming to Cameron along with discussing grant funds that will be coming to the county during a meeting on April 12.

Commissioners adopted a tax abatement agreement with NorCal Ovenworks for 80 percent abatement over three years. NorCal Ovenworks is set to build a facility in Cameron at the Industrial Park. The Cameron City Council has already adopted an abatement agreement.

The company is set to invest $500,000 and create new jobs for the area.

County Judge Steve Young updated the court on the American Rescue Plan Act and what funds will be coming to the county.

That act will provide the county $4.8 million in two installments. The first installment will come this month, with the second coming in early 2022.
