County records 100 death as COVID cases continue to decline

COVID-19 continues to take a toll on Milam County residents as the county has recorded the 100th death from the virus.

Milam County Judge Steve Young reported the sad news that a 100th Milam County resident has now died from this virus since the pandemic began on Tuesday night. This marks the second death this month and the ninth this year.

The active case count in the county is almost gone, as only five active cases remain in the county. Three people remain hospitalized, including one person on a ventilator in serious condition.

Young said that nearly 48 percent of the eligible population is fully vaccinated and less than 20 percent have gotten a booster shot.

The next vaccination clinic will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Milano Fire Station. All clinics are open to residents at least 12 years of age and shots are free. Walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment, please call (254) 697-7000. If you would like to sign up for the homebound program, please call (254) 627-0311 or (254)627-9436.

Free virus testing for Milam County residents will be Mondays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the former Rockdale Medical Clinic and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cameron Fire Station.
