COVID UDPATE: County sees 77 percent increase in testing

COVID report from Judge Steve Young on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020:

Another week of testing is complete and I thank each and every Milam County citizen for doing their part during this pandemic. None of us have experienced a pandemic and none of us knew what was coming, but we have made it this far and soon we will get back to normal.

Vaccines are on the way and we hope to have them in Milam County before the end of the year.  Of course, the vaccine will first go to the hospitals, first responders and nursing homes.  When we get them, Milam County will be ready to see that any citizen of the County will have free access to the vaccine.  In the meantime, continue to do your part by keeping your distance, wearing a mask and washing your hands.

We have 29 new cases to report today; nine new PCR cases and twenty new probable cases. This brings us to another new record of active cases: 120.  This is a 77 percent case increase from last Sunday when we had forty-three active cases which is a 179 percent increase.

Today we tested twenty-four individuals in Buckholts, with eleven positive results.  In the last 16 days of testing, we have tested 513 individuals with 149 positive results, which equates to a 28% positivity rate.

On Monday, Dec. 7, we will test in Rockdale at the former Rockdale hospital from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms we are happy to provide a free COVID antigen test.  Thanks to our great team of testers who are putting their lives on the line so we can provide testing!  A special thanks to your fine County Commissioners, the Mayors and City Council members of each city of the County for cooperating to pool their resources to provide this much needed testing program.
