COVID UPDATE: County’s homebound can now receive COVID vaccines

Homebound residents in Milam County will now have an opportunity to get a COVID vaccincation.

Milam County Judge Steve Young announced Tuesday that starting yesterday the county will be accepting vaccination requests for Milam County residents who are homebound.

If you know someone that is not able to get out and get a shot, please let them know to call the county to get on the homebound shot list.

“We will provide this new service in conjunction with our military friends,” Young said. “We will compile a list of those who are homebound and then begin giving shots at their residence in the next couple of weeks. Call (254) 697-7000 or email Amy Guillen at aguillen@milamcounty.net.”

The county has continued its shot clinics this week with a 500 shot clinic of second round Prizer doses on Wednesday and a 500 shot second round clinic of Moderna doses on Thursday in Rockdale.

“You will be proud to know that since we began vaccinating, Milam County has administered a total of 6,272 shots; 4348 first round and 1924 second round shots,” Young said. “We have held clinics almost every week since January 1, 2021, and we have only just begun. By weeks end we will have administered almost 7,500 shots.”

He said it has been a team effort.

“This has been a team effort of a lot of people, including our Medical Department, Emergency Management, Texas A&M and the many, many volunteers of Milam County,” he said. “We cannot thank them enough for the professional, cheerful hard work they have and continue to do.”

There are currently 16 active COVID cases in the county. Another death was recorded earlier this week, bringing that count to 46. There are currently three people hospitalized.

The county has continues its testing program on Mondays in Rockdale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the old hospital building.
