COVID UPDATE: County records 11th death due to virus

Milam County has recorded another death due to COVID-19.

"Today, we have another Milam County COVID death to report," Milam County Judge Steve Young said. "This makes the eleventh death since the pandemic began. This is a grim reminder of how fatal the virus actually is. Please be careful; wear your mask, keep your distance and wash your hands."

Young said there were 17 new active cases to report as of Wednesday - five new PCR cases and 12 new antigen cases. Three PCR cases and eleven antigen cases were discharged from the active list. There are now 137 active infections is the county, just under the record of 142 set last Friday. In addition, one individual was admitted to a local hospital.

"We tested thirty individuals in Milano today with eight positive results," Young said. "In the last 22 days of testing, we have tested 859 individuals in Milam County with 219 positive results with a positivity rate of 25 percent."

On Thursday, Dec. 17, there will be testing in Cameron at the Cameron VFD from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are a Milam County resident with COVID symptoms we are happy to provide a free COVID antigen test.

8. Hospitalizations 9 – down 2 (two persons on a ventilator)
