COVID UPDATE: County records another death
Another Milam County resident has passed away due to COVID-19.
On Saturday morning, Milam County Judge Steve Young announced, "I am sad to report another death in the county due to the virus. The Milam County resident had recently tested positive for the virus and died at home on Wednesday. This brings the Milam County death toll to six."
Two new cases were also added on Friday, along with two people discharged from the active list and two discharged from the hosptial. That brings the total cases to 483 with 20 active cases.
Young said 12 people were tested in Buckholts on Friday, but test results were not yet available. Testing is set for Rockdale at the hospital today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The testing is free to all Milam County residents.
"With the U.S. approaching 200,000 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and worldwide infections topping 30 million, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that all people who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should get tested, even if they aren't showing symptoms," Young said. "Today’s recommendation reverses controversial guidance the agency issued at the end of August, which said that someone who was in close contact (within 6 feet) of an infected person for at least 15 minutes but doesn’t have symptoms does not "necessarily need a test."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued executive order 30 increasing capacity for most businesses to 75 percent and providing for certain visitors to nursing homes on Thursday. The order is available at https://www.killeentexas.gov/
