COVID UPDATE: COVID numbers climb above 1,000 in county
Milam County recorded another COVID-19 death as total cases surpassed 1,300 over the last week.
Milam County Judge Steve Young reported the 11th death due to the virus last Thursday, Dec. 10.
“Today, we have another Milam County COVID death to report,” Milam County Judge Steve Young said. “This makes the eleventh death since the pandemic began. This is a grim reminder of how fatal the virus actually is. Please be careful; wear your mask, keep your distance and wash your hands.”
There are currently a total of 1,300 confirmed cases of the virus in the county with 142 active cases as of Wednesday morning, Dec. 23.
There are 825 confirmed PCR cases with 63 active and 484 probable antigen cases with 79 active.
There are currently 10 county residents hospitalized with four people on ventilators.
Tuesday was another heavy day of testing here in Milam County. The county tested 39 individuals in Thorndale, with 14 positive results.
Young said that in the last 26 days of testing, our county crew has tested 1,047 individuals with 280 positive results, with a positivity rating of approximately 27 percent.
There will be no testing on Thursday or Friday, Dec. 24 and 25 due to the Christmas holiday, but testing will resume on Monday, Dec. 28, in Rockdale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the former hospital building.

Testing is held on Mondays in Rockdale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Little River Hospital; Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Thondale at the Fireman’s Hall; Wednesdays in Milano from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fire Station; Thursdays in Cameron from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fire Station; and Fridays in Buckholts from 8 a.m. to noon at the Fire Station.
