Fire displaces residents of Cameron apartment complex
Several apartments were damaged in a late night fire on Sunday night at a Cameron apartment complex.
Cameron Volunteer Fire Department and Cameron Police responded just after 11 p.m. Sunday, May 9, to a structure fire at Cameron Trace Apartments in the 1700 block of West 4th. Buckholts Volunteer Fire Department responded about 40 minutes later for mutual aid.
Dispatch indicated at least two people were trapped in the fire.
Cameron Fire Chief Henry Horelica said some people were trapped upstairs and had to jump out windows to escape the blaze.
Cameron Police Chief Lonnie Gosch said there were no fatalities, just minor injuries.
Gosch said the entire breezeway of a building, both up and downstairs, sustained major fire damage, he also indicated that it appears someone lit mattresses on fire that had been placed in the breezeway for removal.
Horelica called the fire suspicious and noted that the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate.
Three people were taken to the hospital for cuts and smoke inhalation. Eight units were displaced and the Red Cross was called to assist.
Cameron Police also arrested Jamison Banes at the scene on outstanding felony warrants.
