First responders busy on Sunday

Milam County First Responders responded to two major accidents on Sunday.

Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department, Milam County deputies, and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded about 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, to reports of a two-vehicle fatality crash on FM 486 near the FM 908 intersection.

DPS Sgt. Bryan Washko said two people died in the crash.

Investigators determined a 2012 Kia Sorento driven by a 39-year-old Georgetown woman was southbound on FM 486 when it stopped while waiting for an oncoming vehicle to pass before making a left turn into a church parking lot. The Kia was then struck from behind by a southbound 2016 Dodge Ram truck driven by a 34-year-old Thorndale woman. Investigators determined the Dodge failed to control speed and struck the Kia.

A 14-year-old male passenger and 42-year-old Tyesha Nikole Tanner of Georgetown both died in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was shutdown for several hours while crews worked the scene.

Cameron Volunteer Fire Department, Milam County deputies, and DPS troopers responded to a single-vehicle wreck in the 1600 block of FM 485 just an hour later on Sunday. Dispatch indicated at least one person was ejected from the vehicle, though there have been no fatalities at this time. No other information was released.
