Former Ranger Commander to speak at Memorial Ruck and Ride
Former commander of 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Colonel (ret.) Mike Kershaw is slated to speak at the Milam County Memorial Ruck and Ride on Aug. 14 at the Cameron Fire Station starting at 11 a.m. to honor our Gold Star families and reflect on the service of our fallen heroes.
Kershaw is most recognized for leading the special operations to rescue POW, PFC Jessica Lynch during the Iraq War. During the mission the Army Rangers, assisted by Marines, also recovered the remains of 8 service members. Kershaw has a special tie to Cameron native and fallen hero, Master Sergeant Charles Price III. Price served under Kershaw’s command in Desert Storm. Kershaw is currently a Mission Command Coach for Valiant Integrated Services in San Antonio.
This year’s event will be held on Aug. 14. Veteran and adaptive athlete, Kris Biggs, will lead the 8-mile ruck at 9 a.m. from the Cameron Fire Station to Denio’s Furniture store and back to the station.
Veteran and Combat Vets Motorcycle Association member, Matthew Klatt, will lead the ride at 10 am from the Brookshire Bros parking lot in Rockdale to the Cameron Fire Station.
A lunch honoring our county Gold Star families will commence at 11 a.m. at the station. Special guest speakers will be on hand to memorialize the service members. All ruck participants are asked to park in the neighborhood behind the station and meet at the rear of the station.
The Memorial Ruck and Ride is still accepting donations for lunch and requests that all Gold Star families confirm with Bobbie Wiesman at (254) 482-3112 if they will be able to attend, so they may receive the honor they deserve. The Ruck welcomes all who would like to ruck march keeping in mind they are capable of an 8-mile march.
