Milam County Appraisal District announces certified values
Chief Appraiser Dyann White said the Milam Appraisal District has completed the 2020 protest season, with the exception of a few pending. Certified values have been released to the taxing units.
White said there were a total of 1,600 protests filed, the exact same number as 2019. This represents 5.7 percent of the appraisal roll.
She said most values stayed the same except for properties that were improved in some way, had new construction, and oil and gas.
“Values were flat or increasing only slightly above our 2019 appraisals at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020,” White said. “For most properties this meant our 2020 values stayed the same as in 2019. The exception is land and homes in the Thorndale area. Property there is continuing to sell quickly, and at higher values. Since the pandemic, we have not seen a reduction in sale prices reported to us or the number of properties being sold. So far, the pandemic does not appear to be having a negative effect on our local real estate market. It’s contrary to what one might expect, but the data is pretty clear. We will continue to monitor sales prices in relation to the pandemic for 2021 value.”
