Milam County records first death due to COVID-19

Milam County has recorded its first death due to COVID-19.

Milam County Judge Steve Young said this morning the person passed away in a Temple Hospital. They were under the age of 50.

He said this was one of the cases diagnosed late last week and was not related to the cases at Dairy Queen.

One other Milam County resident is still in the hospital due to the virus.

There are also three others still in self-quarantine. Seven people have recovered from the virus in the county.

Young said he will ask commissioners to extend the Shelter in Place order during next week’s Commissioners Court meeting.

“Please wear a mask if you are out in public,” Young said. “This is nothing to play with. This is a killer virus.”

Young asked that business owners please have their employees wear masks if they have contact with the public on a daily basis.

The Shelter in Place orders are extended through May 4 at this time.

All school districts in the county will be closed for the remainder of the year after Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered that on Friday.
