New cases bring COVID-19 count to 22 in county

Milam County Judge Steve Young has announced two additional cases of COVID-19 in the county.

He said one is related to the 20th case and the other is from the middle of the county.

Both are self-quarantined at home at this point.

These are the first new cases since last Friday, May 8.

That brings the case count to 22 with one death. Eleven people have recovered from the virus and 10 cases are still active.

Young said they estimate that between 200 and 250 people have been tested in the county.

“No doubt we will continue to have additional confirmed cases in the county,” Young said. “Remember the virus is alive and well in all parts of the county. The virus is very contagious; the virus kills; and there is no cure. The only thing we can do is prevent the spread is to stay home, wear a mask in public and wash your hands frequently.”

Commissioners lifted the Shelter in Place order for the county during a meeting on Thursday, May 7.
