REPORT LEADS TO CJH SEARCH

A report of a possible gun on a Cameron campus brought about a lockdown and search.

At around 8 a.m. today, March 26, the Cameron Independent School District relayed information to the Milam County Sheriff’s Office that a student had taken a gun to Cameron Junior High and left it in a locker.

Sheriff Mike Clore said the District requested assistance

with an administrative search of the campus and went into a soft lockdown while that search was underway. Following a thorough search, a bb gun was located in the possession of another student. On interviewing the student that was the subject of the original information, that student admitted to lying about bringing a gun to campus. Any disciplinary action to be taken will be done by Cameron ISD. There is no credible threat to the campus at this time.

“The CJH administration acted quickly to place the campus on a soft lockdown and to partner with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a thorough search of the campus,” Cameron ISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles said. “The reported weapon was not found. However, a BB gun, unrelated to the report was discovered in an out building. Once the search for the original weapon was completed and the BB gun was contained, the soft lockdown was lifted and the campus resumed its regular schedule. As always, the safety and security of our students, staff and school community is our top priority and we will continue to be diligent in this endeavor.”
