Sales tax allocations increase across Milam County

There is very good news across the county in terms of sales tax collections.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar last week announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $801.5 million in local sales tax allocations for September, 8.5 percent more than in September 2018.

Sales tax allocations are up across Milam County as a whole with the biggest jump in collections being in Cameron and Buckholts.

The City of Cameron collected $73,499.44 in sales taxes compared to $64,562.94 last year. They have collected $722,633.78 in sales taxes this year so far. That is a 13.8 percent increase.

The Town of Buckholts collected $1,824.26 in sales taxes compared to $1,438 last year. A change of 26.81 percent.

Other cities in the county also had increases in sales tax including Rockdale and Milano.

Rockdale saw a 6.24 percent increase in sales tax collections and has collected $609,231 so far this year. Milano has seen a 9.94 percent increase collecting $70,814 so far this year.

Thorndale has only seen a .41 percent increase so far this year, collecting $113,680.

The county as a whole has seen a 39 percent jump in sales tax collections collecting $976,309 so far this year as compared to $702,223 last year at this time.

These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
