Thrift Store offering Thanksgiving bag sign-up until Nov. 17

Wow what a year! And now the holiday season is just about here! Folks are wondering when they can sign up for extra food at the Cameron Area Christian Services Thrift Shop.   Well don’t stop reading for the answer is near.  

Let’s start with a huge thank you to all the people that help give out food, clothes and items to help the needy of Milam County. During the last meeting of the board it was noted that food donations for September came from Farm Bureau and six individuals with cash donations from Cameron’s First Baptist, First Presbyterian, First Baptist Care and Share plus a gift card from Brookshire Brothers and one individuals amounting to $753.18.  Fifty-seven persons were helped with food and three with clothing. Plus four people volunteered at the Thrift Shop. If you want to volunteer, just show up at the Thrift Shop and ask for Betty any day the Thrift Shop is open. Remember secondhand items are for sale at the Thrift Shop as well and from time to time furniture and appliances. All types of items are donated for resale, so you just don’t know what treasures await unless you stop by. Check out the tags at the Thrift Shop. White tag $1 with the highest price tag being $8.  

As always  the last week in the month most used clothing & other selected items are part of the 25 for $5. No limit to how many $5 deals you can buy so plan to get by the Thrift Shop the last week of the month and take advantage of the 25 items for $5. 

Now what you have been waiting to read,  the Thanksgiving sign up dates and the give out date for 2020. Once again this year the Thrift Shop (Thanks to your donations) will be giving out for Thanksgiving a large bag of food  with a chicken, some eggs; cans of  cranberry sauce, corn, green beans, pumpkin, evaporated milk, sweet potatoes plus a package of corn bread mix and a cake mix with frosting.

No requirement other than signing up, so if you want a Thanksgiving bag of food from the Thrift Shop this year you must go by the Shop and sign up in person from Nov. 3 to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17. Once signed up then come back on Tuesday, Nov. 24 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up your bag. Note the Thrift Shop will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and reopen Friday the 27th.

Would you like to be a Board Member of the Thrift Shop Board? According to the By Laws Membership shall consist of those Cameron area Churches who’s governing bodies on an annual basis 1.) Pledge a financial contribution, 2.) Appoint a representative and 3.) Pledge congregational involvement.   So if you want to be a representative on the Cameron Area Christian Services Board, just stop by the Thrift Shop and leave your name, address and name of Church to be represented to receive notice of when the next Board meeting will to be held. The next Board meeting will be on the Nov. 9 at the Methodist FLC building on Travis Street starting at noon.   Everyone is welcome at the Thrift Shop, come shop, donate or volunteer.  Anyone can mail a tax deductable donation to 300 South Houston Street, Cameron, Texas 76520 or come by the Thrift Shop, which is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) community based organization which serves the needy of the area.
