Bulldogs take care of Burton in landslide win
The No. 11 Thorndale Bulldogs (24-7) blew out their first round playoff opponent in an 80-44 bi-district win over Burton on Tuesday night at Giddings High School. Thorndale’s next postseason opponent is San Antonio Stacey who defeated Junction 35-31 on Tuesday in their bi-district contest. Date, time and place were not decided by Champion press time on Wednesday morning. Stacey is the runner up from District 28-2A. The Bulldogs are the top seed of the 25-2A standings. Thorndale and No. 10 Hearne are co-district champions, but a coin flip determined who went as what place. Holland was the third place team and Mumford was fourth. Both Holland and Mumford fell in their first round games, while Hearne defeated Iola on Monday night. Against Burton, the Bulldogs blew the game open early, up 23-10 after the first quarter and 46-19 by halftime. Thorndale let up a little bit in the second half, outscoring the Panther just 34-25 in the final quarters. Sam Reaves and Kolby Neumeyer both scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, with 33 and 24 points, respectively. Michael Herzog put up nine points and Garrett Bernstein added four. Chance Betak recorded three points, with Evan Ivy and Logan Davis scoring two points apiece. Ty Kovar, Jagger Rubio and Nick Gerren all collected one point each.
