James Calvin Smith

James Calvin Smith, 52, of Cameron, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at his home.  Services were held April 7, 2019.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 23, 1966, in Cameron to Patricia “Pat” and Calvin “Ted” Smith. He attended Buckholts High School. He had worked as a mechanic both in his father’s mechanic shop and as a bus mechanic for Cameron ISD.

He was preceded in death by sister, Vickie Shuffield. 

He is survived by: daughters, Miranda “LouAnn” Smith of Temple, Katlyn “Katy” Smith of Bryan, and Nola Hranicky and husband Chris of El Campo; step-daughter, Tonya Staton and husband Kelly of Calvert; step-sons, Keith Pate of Rosebud and Peter Pate of Channelview; brother, Melvin Smith and wife Crystal of Louisiana; brother-in-law, Buddy Shuffield of Cameron; many grandchildren; and the love of his life, Janie Melcer.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
