CISD hires new superintendent

Cameron ISD has a new man in charge.

The CISD Board of Trustees made it official and hired Kevin Sprinkles as superintendent during a special meeting on May 9.

CISD Board President James Burks said the board is extremely excited about bringing Sprinkles aboard.

Sprinkles said he is just as excited to begin working in Cameron.

“Thank you to the board for trusting me and giving me this opportunity to work in such an outstanding school district and hiring me on Yoe Day,” Sprinkles said. “That is pretty special.”

He and his family are excited for the move to Cameron.

“We are excited to be a part of not only the school district, but this community,” he said.  “Cameron ISD is an outstanding district, rich in tradition and history. I am well aware of that. I am just extremely excited about the opportunity to just serve and be here and meet everyone and being a part of an excellent culture.”

Sprikles said he knows this community expects excellence and he is truly honored and humbled for this opportunity.

“I don’t take it lightly,” he said. “I will work extremely hard to do the best for the children.”

Sprinkles’ wife Rebecca and son Kevin Sprinkles Jr., a fifth grader, were with him for the meeting.

Burks said Sprinkles was the frontrunner for superintendent from the get go.

“It was a hard choice between him and one other candidate but he rose to the top,” Burks said. “He is bringing years of experience. He has had great success at Little-River Academy. We are so excited to get someone with his experience. He has been through all of the trials and we are excited to have him here.”

Sprinkles will take the place of current Superintendent Alan Sapp who is set to retire this summer.
