Yoemen win Battle of the Bell
James DeBose rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Yoemen to a 31-3 victory over the Rockdale Tigers in the 65th Battle of the Bell Friday at Tiger Stadium.
DeBose rushed for 193 yards on 19 carries as the Yoemen (7-1, 3-1) rolled up 403 yards to take control of second place in the district behind Troy (8-1, 5-0). Rockdale (6-2, 2-2), which had scored at least 44 points in every game this season, mustered only 276 yards in what was expected to be a shootout. Rockdale threw three interceptions and lost one fumble.
Cameron took a 14-0 halftime lead on DeBose’s 3-yard touchdown run and a 13-yard TD pass from Braden Brashear to Kobe Young. The teams traded field goals in the third quarter with Cameron’s Axel Martinez hitting a 24-yarder and Rockdale’s Ross Loth a 27-yarder. DeBose closed out the scoring with a pair of TD runs in the fourth quarter. Nico Vargas supported DeBose with eight carries for 78 yards.
