Willie “Polly” Lavan Sr.
Willie “Polly” Lavan Sr., 88, of Cameron died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at Central Church of Christ in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. A wake service will be held 7 p.m. Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron
Mr. Lavan was born Jan. 18, 1931 to John Lavan Sr. and Essie Scott Lavan. He attended school in Griffin Chapel and Milano. After he finished school, he worked for Wilson Art for a few years. He later joined Santa Fe Railroad, where he worked for 42 years until retirement. He also continued to farm until his health failed. He attended Central Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Ewing Lavan; sons, James Earl Ewing, Gary Dennis Ewing and Willie “Pookie” Lavan Jr.; and by two sisters, and one brother.
He is survived by: brother, Johnnie Lavan; daughters, Patricia Black of Cameron, Rosie Allen of Cameron, Janice Henderson and husband Orlando of Cameron, Debra Colvard and husband Larry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Alma Faye Hector of Galveston, and Kimberly Lewis of Killeen; sons, Nathan Ewing and wife Virginia of Cameron, Frank Ewing and wife Christine of Cameron, Bobby Lavan and wife Lydia of Cameron; and Jessie Lavan and wife Patricia of Cameron; 43 grandchildren; 107 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren.
