Julian K. Rogers

Julian K. Rogers, 96, of Temple, died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at the Central Texas V.A. Hospital in Temple.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Rockdale, to James Kelso and Flossie (Yoakum) Rogers. He enlisted into the United States Army and spent two years in the Army before joining the United States Air Force. He spent 22 years in the Air Force before retiring in 1966 with the WWII Victory Medal, the Humane Action Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Good Conduct Medal. He then returned to Texas and began working for Liquid Air as a gas plant operator, he retired from there after 16 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Yvonne Rogers; three sons, Jimmy, Leonard, and Bill Rogers; two grandchildren; and three brothers.

Julian is survived by his daughters, Lindia Cooke and Julie Waltmire; brother, Earl Beathard; sisters, Leona Taylor, Shirley Swindall, and Enolia Purvis; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale. Burial was in Sandy Creek immediately following with Military Honors. A visitation was held on Tuesday before the service.

Serving as pallbearers were Michael Taylor, Boyd Taylor, James Taylor, Travis Yoakum, Tim Taylor, Randy Purvis, Terry Cunningham, and Kerry Schlemmer. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Waltmire Christian Waltmire, Shane Waltmire, Trent Wells, Troy Wells, Gary Rogers, Taylor Strauss, and T Strauss.
