James Monroe “Monty” Thompson Jr.
James Monroe “Monty” Thompson Jr., 60, of Cameron died Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home.
James, the executive director of the Cameron Housing Authority, was born July 23, 1959, in Marlin to James Monroe and Mary Sue Shumate Thompson. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Widner, on April 12, 1980. James served nine years as a trustee on the Cameron ISD school board and was actively involved in various other organizations in the community.
He is survived by: his wife, Connie Thompson of Cameron; daughter, Jada Parker and husband Sam of Cameron; son, Connor Thompson of Cameron; sisters, Cynthia Labay and husband Lyle of Cameron and Susan Thompson of Cameron; brother, Steven Thompson and wife Kim of Cameron; and three grandchildren, Brooklynn, Braxton, and Bree.
Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
