Lady Yoe start season at 5-1, get tournament win
The Lady Yoe softball team won their own tournament last weekend and moved to 5-1 on the season.
The ladies opened tournament play with a double header on Friday night against Thrall. They won 9-2 in game one, but dropped the nightcap 7-0.
They snagged a late lead and defeated Thrall 4-3 on Saturday morning.
The game was tied at one with the Lady Yoe batting in the bottom of the fourth when Haley Tucker singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Thrall got on the board in the first inning. Aubrie Henderson hit a solo homer.
The ladies then evened things up at one in the bottom of the third inning. An error scored one run.
Cheyenne Spillers led the ladies to victory. She went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out one and walking one.
Jessie Cole took the loss for Thrall. She surrendered four runs on four hits over four innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Spillers, Tucker, Leah Pfeiffer, and Molly Oges each collected one hit to lead the Lady Yoe in scoring.
The Lady Yoe then moved on to defeat Hillsboro on Saturday 6-3.
After Hillsboro scored two runs in the top of the fourth, the ladies answered with two of their own.
Hillsboro scored on a double on a 1-2 count, scoring one run and singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Then Yoe’s Amelia Wimmer drew a walk, scoring one run.
The ladies pulled away for good with two runs in the second inning.
In the second Pfeiffer doubled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run and an error scored one run for the Lady Yoe.
Sam Frausto was credited with the victory for Cameron. She lasted four innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out two and walking zero.
Wimmer, Lauren Harris, Tucker, and Pfeiffer each managed one hit for the Lady Yoe.
The ladies also defeated Teague 9-2 on Saturday thanks to six runs in the first inning.
The offensive onslaught was led by Madison Brunson, Kenzie Lara, Emily Torres who all drove in runs in the inning.
The ladies opened up scoring in the first inning, when Brunson tripled on a 3-1 count, scoring two runs.
Spillers was the winning pitcher. She lasted five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out eight.
The ladies collected seven hits. Lara and Brunson each managed two hits.
The Lady Yoe improved to 5-1 after winning the Lady Yoe Softball Tournament.
They will compete in the West Tournament this weekend.
