Doris Evelyn Lafferty
Mrs. Doris Evelyn Lafferty, 89, passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, in a Cameron nursing facility after a long illness.
A private graveside service for Mrs. Lafferty was held Sunday, April 19, at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Tommy Richardson officiating.
Mrs. Lafferty was born Aug. 14, 1930, to James and Ellie Myers in Gouldbusk, Texas. She married the love of her life, James E. Lafferty in 1948, and was a faithful pastor’s wife and served alongside her husband for 52 years before his death in 2013. They served in Fort Worth, Tyler, and 12 years at First Baptist Church in Cameron. She served as his secretary at the FIRM Baptist area office during his time there. She also worked at L&M Jewelry in Cameron. Mrs. Lafferty enjoyed painting and was active in the Porcelain Art Guild for many years.
She is survived by her son, Dale Lafferty and wife, Cindy, and daughter-in-law, Toni Lafferty, all of Cameron; two sisters, Helen Smith of Blanco and Dovie Garrett of Louisiana also survive. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lafferty was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jim Lafferty; and 11 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Cameron First Baptist Church Mission Fund.
