Coronavirus testing number released

Free testing for the coronavirus will be conducted this Wednesday, April 29, at the Milano Fire Station from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

This will be mobile testing for those who have symptoms. To participate call (512) 883 2400 or go on line at https://txcovidtest.org/ to register. You must register for screening to get tested. The test will be a nasal swap test and the results will be available in about 48 hours.

Milam County Judge Steve Young said the tests are being provided by several state agencies and Milam County.

No new cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed over that last week in Milam County. The count remains at 13. One person is still in the hospital and there has been one death in the county. All others have recovered or are in self-quarantine.

He said that Courtney Paulson of Country Meadows in Thorndale will soon be providing a new test for the virus. The test is 99 percent accurate in detecting antibodies to COVID-19. This will be provided through Quest Diagnostics. These tests will initially be ordered for first responders/healthcare workers with high exposure and those who have recently been ill with what they think was COVID-19, however the test must be performed at least 14 days after exposure. This is because the virus doesn't seroconvert for 11-14 days after exposure, meaning a measurable amount of antibodies will not show up until then.
