Cameron ISD sets plans for graduation ceremony on May 29

Cameron ISD has a plan for graduation 2020.

CISD Superintendent Kevin Sprinkles spoke to the CISD Board of Trustees during a meeting Monday night about those plans.

“Our graduates really wanted to have an in-person ceremony,” Sprinkles said. “I have spoken with them and they really want that, so we want to make that happen for them.”

Sprinkles said he has been working closely with YHS Principal Brian Stork to make sure the district can do that safely and has plans in place to hold the ceremony at Yoe Field on May 29.

Sprinkles said the district will release concrete plans for the ceremony to parents and graduates some time this week.

The ceremony will take place at Yoe Field with social distancing protocols in place.

Sprinkles said each graduate will most likely be allowed to have five guests and those guests will have an assigned seating area in the stadium. He said they plan to use both sides of the stadium for seating.

He said the district is also going ahead with filming segments with each graduate for a virtual ceremony should outdoor plans not be able to take place.

“The health and safety of our students and their families is of course what is most important to us,” he said. “But we do want to give these students a change to graduate with their class on Yoe Field.”

More detailed directions will be given to graduates and their families over the next few days.

The board also met with attorneys and consultants from Powell, Youngblood and Taylor LLC to discuss Texas Tax Code 313, which allows school districts to work with new business coming into the county and school district.

They discussed an application forthcoming from several of the new solar farms moving into the county and how that will effect the school district as far as appraised value limitation and qualified property.

Yoe High will hold its annual Senior Scholarship banquet on Facebook Live on Monday night, May 18 beginning at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to watch.
