GOP County, Precinct Conventions set for June 6

The 2020 Milam GOP Precinct and County Conventions will be held on June 6.

The coronavirus has delayed the conventions.

Milam County Republican Chair Bill Whitmire said, “this will be the 76th anniversary of the Normandy Landing seems an appropriate time to get the 2020 General Election Campaign started.”

All conventions will take place at the Williams Events Center in Cameron located at 408 S. Columbus Avenue

Precinct Conventions will begin at 9 a.m. and then the County Convention will start approximately an hour after the last Precinct Convention ends. If you voted in the GOP primary in March, then you are eligible to participate in the conventions.

During the County Convention it will be decided who will be attending the State Convention in July as delegates and alternates (11 people each). Attendance at the State Convention could lead to possibly becoming a delegate or alternate to the National Convention later this summer.

There will also be opportunities to meet with local, state, and national candidates and to interact with them to discuss those issues important to you. There will also be an opportunity to offer up propositions for consideration to the State GOP Platform at the State Conventions later this summer.

Whitmire said the Precinct and County Conventions have been well attended in the past; however, 2018 saw a dramatic drop in attendance and this year threatens the same with the delays caused by the coronavirus.

The Milam GOP welcomes participants and hopes to see you there. Refreshments will be provided.
