Helen O. Barnes
Helen O. Barnes, of Fair Oaks Ranch, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday June 5, 2020, at the age of 97.
She was born in San Gabriel on Feb. 20, 1923, to Elmer Monroe “Bill” Locklin and Mary Shirocky. Helen grew up in Thorndale.
On Nov. 22, 1942, she married Herbert E. “Gene” Barnes of Hutto.
She worked for many years in the Alamo Heights school district in San Antonio as the Junior High School attendance secretary and in the Robinson Elementary Bi-lingual Department. She also served as the President of the Alamo Heights Opti-Mrs. Club. She was a founding member of the Cranes Mill Baptist Church, where she served for many years as the church Hostess.
She is survived by her son, Gary Eugene Barnes and wife Cindy of Fair Oaks Ranch; daughter, Sylvia Sue Barnes Novier and husband Frank of Fair Oaks Ranch; sister, Peggy Anders of Houston; five granddaughters, Sheridan Blair Barnes, Kelly Ross Barnes, Lindsey Katherine Barnes, Paige Nicole Seabridge, and Rachael Barnes Marsh; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Threm, Naomi Marsh, and Ethan Eulenhoefer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, with burial at the Cranes Mill Cemetery. For safety concerns during these COVID-19 times, a church service and reception will be held at a later date.
