COVID UPDATE: Cases seem to be slowing in Milam County

For a second straight day there were minimal COVID-19 cases reported in Milam County.

Milam County Judge Steve Young said there were only two new cases of the virus confirmed overnight, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 262. He also said the county did not get any reports from Scott & White yesterday, so that number might not be on point.

The active case count is unchanged at 45. The Milam County Health Department is monitoring 101 people. One person remains hospitalized and in serious condition. The death toll remains at two.

Young announced on Wednesday that only three new cases were added on Tuesday. Young indicated that the Milam County Health Department was advised by a testing lab that seven nursing home test results were invalid due to lab contamination. Five of those seven were Milam County residents. With that information, the Milam County case count has been adjusted to reflect the contaminated tests, meaning those five positive results were removed from the case count. 

So while the county was informed of eight positive tests on Tuesday, five of those were removed leading to the increase of three cases for the day. 

The Health Department also released updated demographic information Wednesday. The majority of cases are in the 20-49 age group making up roughly half of all cases. The birth-19 and 70-99 groups are at 10 percent each.

The 76520 zip code also still leads the way in making up over half of all confirmed cases at 52 percent. The 76567 zip code accounts for 28 percent and 76577 is nearing 10 percent of cases.
