Lonnie E. Hemphill Sr.
Lonnie E. Hemphill Sr. was born on July 22, 1954, in Maysfield to Rosetta and Lee Willie Hemphill Sr. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rosemary Hemphill; his favorite uncle, Curtis England Sr.; his aunt, Anna Mae Humble; and his grandmother, Carrie England.
Lonnie grew up in Maysfield and attended Maysfield School and later graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in Cameron. Lonnie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union Ridge Baptist Church in Maysfield.
Lonnie Later met and married Starla Kelley on Oct. 1, 1983, and to this union three kids were born. Lonnie had worked as a production worker at ManPower for five years. He was a bus driver for Cameron ISD for 10 years. Lonnie later went to work for Baker Tire Service for three years before going to work at Yellow Roadway as a truck driver, from where he later retired after 18 years.
Lonnie’s favorite hobbies were barbecuing and playing dominos. Lonnie Loved attending his grandkids sporting events and was well known for his barbecue. Lonnie was well known and loved by many people here, there and everywhere.
On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, the good Lord whispered in his ear “Come and go with me my son, my good and faithful servant for your job here is done.”
Lonnie leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Akeshia Hemphill, Lonnie Hemphill Jr., and Devin Hemphill and Nico Vargas, all of Cameron; grandkids, Pharrell Hemphill, Brooklyn Hemphill, Enperial Hemphill, Lee Will Hemphill, Marvin Brooks, Robert Hemphill and Donald Brooks; two good friends, Johnny Steamer and Sonja Morris; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020. Burial will follow in the Milam Grove Cemetery near Maysfield.
