G.B. McDermott

G.B. McDermott, 86, of the Marlow community, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, at a Temple hospital.

Graveside services will be Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Marlow Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, from 9-10 a.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. McDermott was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Cameron to Charles Erskine and Elizabeth (Griffin) McDermott. On May 2, 1959, he married Betty Raska. He was a graduate of C.H. Yoe High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Milam County Junior Livestock Association for 25 years. He served as a past Director at Marlow Water Supply Corp., and was a member of the Marlow Baptist Church where he served on the Marlow Cemetery Association for 20+ years. GB was a beloved employee at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home for 42 years.

He was preceded in death his brother, Charles McDermott.    

He is survived by: wife, Betty McDermott of Marlow; daughters, Lorrie Harris of Cameron and Danna Cheatham of Cameron; sister, Elizabeth McDermott Cole of Marlow; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces of nephews

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.
