$12,500 in scholarships given to area college students to honor Christine Holcombe

The Christine Holcombe Memorial scholarship fund has awarded fourteen Milam County college students a total of $12,5000 in scholarships.  The collegiate scholarship fund was established in honor of longtime Milam County extension agent Christine Holcombe who lost her battle with cancer in 2013.  

Funds for this scholarship were raised earlier this year at the Mardi Gras Bash held this past February. Over the past eight years the Chris Holcombe Memorial Scholarship has awarded $103,000 in scholarships to Milam County college students. 

Here is a list of this year’s scholarship recipients:

 

$1,500 Scholarship Recipients:

Fernando Ramos of Cameron is studying Psychology at Lamar University.  He wants to be a rehabilitation psychologist.

Pablo Rodriguez is attending Texas A&M majoring in Agriculture Economics.  A native of Cameron, Pablo wants to study oil and gas law.

Stephani Pantelon of Rockdale is attending Texas A&M. Stephani is getting her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and wants to become a physician’s assistant.

 

$1,000 Scholarship Recipients:

Carlee Morgan of Rockdale attends Sam Houston State University.  She is majoring in Interdisciplinary Agriculture and Secondary Education. She wants to be an agricultural science teacher after graduation.

Keely Lagrone of Milano is attending the University of Arkansas. She is working to obtain a master’s degree in Athletic Training.

Rick Fuentes of Cameron wants to be a coastal engineer. He is majoring in Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University.  

Madison Hafley a graduate of Thorndale High School is attending Tarleton State University studying nursing. Madison wants to be a pediatric nurse in the future.

 

$750 Scholarship Recipients:  

Bryce Brashear of Buckholts is attending Texas A&M University and wants to become a civil engineer.

Daniel Gilbert is attending Texas State Technical College in Waco studying Diesel Mechanic Technology. Daniel is from Cameron and wants to be a Heavy Equipment and Truck Diesel Mechanic.  

 

$500 Scholarship Recipients:

Keagan Galvan of Cameron attends Texas State University majoring in Social work.  She wants to be a hospital case manager.

Jordan Husher of Cameron is attending Brigham Young University-Idaho.  Jordan wants to be a band director and is majoring in Music Education.

Caleb Hubnik of Cameron is attending Texas State Technical College in Hutto.  Caleb is getting a degree in Welding Technology.

Gracen Dach is attending Texas A&M University. Gracen is from Cameron and is majoring in poultry science.

Hannah Hux  is attending Baylor University. Hannah is from Cameron and is working towards her masters in Speech Pathology and wants to be a speech pathologist.
